Friday night (8-8-25) we returned back to Madison International Speedway for our 2nd leg there this year for the Cheese Curd Cup. But this time it was on the quarter mile Ring Of Fire. We were expecting an action packed night and it sure was.
Car count was down a little, but the action was high. In practice, it sure looked like it could be anyone’s night to win. When it came to Qualifying, it was Mark Dewey taking home quick time with a 14.138. He was followed by Phil Malouf in 2nd. He was followed by Mark English, Tyler Muller, and Anna Malouf in 5th. In 6th, it was Justin Pearson, he was followed by Justin Schelitzche, Steve Dickson, Al Strobel and Jermey Whitman and Lyle Phillips.
Heat race 1, it was Al and Jermey leading the pack to the green flag. Al took the lead and Justin S followed, the hard battles would not let them change so it was Al Strobel taking home the heat win. Following in 2nd was Justin S, Justin P, Steve Dickson, and Jermey in 5th.
Heat 2 it was Tyler Muller and Anna Malouf leading the fast pack to the green flag with Tyler taking the early lead with Mark English hot on his tail. After some hard battles, it was Tyler taking home the win. Followed by Mark English, Phil Malouf, Mark Dewey and Anna Malouf
Then it was Feature time. Everyone knew it was going to be a long 30 lap race. And oh man, it was a show to see. Al Strobel and Steve Dickson lead the pack to the green flag with Al taking the lead. Steve could not make that outside line work and fell back fast. But Justin S was there and trying to get to Al, Mark E quickly getting to 3rd trying to get to the front as fast as possible but the battle with Justin P kept him back in 4th. Jermey did what he could but spun it in turns 1&2 brining out the caution. The Cone came out and many took the inside line. The group took the green again and the battles heated up. Then you see Mark D taking the high side and making passes till he got to the front to battle with Al at lap 8. Al hung on strung with Mark D outside of him and Mark E on his tail for many, many laps. Lots on close hard racing up front. Not one person could get a good advantage. About 5 or 6 to go, Al pushed up into Mark D and Mark was not able to make up the distance. But he still had Mark E hot on his tail. Justin S made it up to 3rd and pushing hard and the same with everyone else. But it was Mark E making the last lap pass for the win.
After all said and done, it was Mark English taking home the win. He was followed by Justin Schelitzche, Tyler Muller, Al Strobel and Phil Malouf in 5th. Then it was Mark Dewey, Justin Pearson, Anna Malouf, Jermey Whitman, and Steve Dickson in 10th. Finishing 11th was Lyle Phillips.
Comment from fans was, That was an awesome show. That Mark Dewey made it exciting running the high side like he did and making it last as long as he did. Mark English was fast just could not get there till the end. Wow what a race. That’s was a lot of good hard close racing.
Thanks for the comments that came from the fans.
Mark Dewey was the winner of the non-winners drawing from Cody’s Classic Cars.
