What a day at the track!
A stacked field of 27 drivers rolled into Slinger Super Speedway ready to take on the high banks. When qualifying wrapped up, only 21 drivers earned a spot in the feature, while six were left on the outside looking in. The fast, demanding oval proved once again that Slinger can challenge even the most talented drivers, but with every lap, competitors gained confidence and speed around the historic speedway.
Qualifying
When the dust settled, Jason Uttech claimed Fast Time and added another impressive accomplishment to his resume as the Midwest Dash Track Record Holder, stopping the clock at an incredible 13.321 seconds. Right on his bumper was Karter Stark, just 0.007 seconds behind in second place.
Rounding out the top five were:
- Jason Uttech – 13.321
- Karter Stark
- Mark Dewey
- Matt Berger
- Phil Malouf
The rest of the qualifying order saw Shawn Kemnetz, Jose Santacruz, Josh Rusch, George Sparkman, Brandon Tackes, Josh Willhite, Mitchell Strobel, Joe Kuehn, Tim Anderson, Morgan Zerwinski, Dylan Lemberger, Misty Benn, Tyler Muller, Marty Tackes, Nick Schmidt, Anna Malouf, Merek Pankow, Al Strobel, Steven Dickson, Travis Hill, Derek Zblewski, and Julia Pirog all battling for positioning heading into the night’s racing action.
With the field set, it was clear fans were in for a spectacular night of racing.
Heat Race Action
Heat Race #1
Julia Pirog and Derek Zblewski brought the field to green, but it was Nick Schmidt who charged his way to the front and captured the Heat Race 1 victory.
Heat Race #2
Tyler Muller and Misty Benn led the pack to green. After an intense battle, Dylan Lemberger emerged victorious to take the Heat Race 2 win.
Heat Race #3
George Sparkman and Josh Rusch paced the field to the start. Sparkman showed impressive speed and determination, holding off a hard-charging field to claim the Heat Race 3 victory.
Last Chance Qualifier
With feature spots on the line, tension was high as Misty Benn and Marty Tackes led the 10-car field to green in the Last Chance Race.
Every driver knew it was now or never.
When the checkered flag flew, Nick Schmidt once again found himself in Victory Lane, taking the LCQ win. Joining him in transferring to the feature were:
- Marty Tackes
- Misty Benn
- Al Strobel
- Merek Pankow
Those five drivers secured the final spots in the night’s main event.
The Feature
The moment everyone had been waiting for had arrived.
Brandon Tackes and George Sparkman led the field to the green flag, and Sparkman wasted no time taking command of the race. Behind him, drivers raced fiercely for every position as the high-banked speedway delivered non-stop action.
A caution on Lap 10 bunched the field back together and reset the battle up front.
When racing resumed, Phil Malouf surged into the lead while Karter Stark applied heavy pressure from second with Josh Rusch right in the mix. Stark finally made his move on Lap 14, taking over the top spot and beginning to stretch his advantage over the field.
As the laps clicked away, the competition only intensified. Cars traded positions throughout the pack, several competitors encountered issues, and all eyes turned to fast qualifier Jason Uttech, who was steadily carving his way toward the front.
By Lap 20, Stark remained firmly in control, but the battle behind him was heating up. Uttech continued his charge and finally overtook Phil Malouf for second place on Lap 27, setting his sights on the leader.
Then came the dramatic finish.
Just as it looked like Stark had the race in hand, Uttech found another gear. In the closing laps, Jason completed an incredible comeback, taking over the lead and racing away to score the victory in the Slinger Super Speedway Super Beez Feature.
Final Thoughts
Wow. Just wow.
Few could have predicted a finish like that. The racing was intense from green flag to checkered flag, and the competitors put on an incredible show for everyone in attendance.
