What a weekend it was. Day 1 of the double header weekend started out at Madison International Speedway for the 4th Annual Cheese Curd Cup. 19 drivers showed up and we had a great show. But only 17 was able to qualify and race. Issues plagued them.
For qualifying it was Davey Pennel taking quick time. He was followed by Mark Dewey, Kyle Stark, Karter Stark, and rounding out the top 5 was Ryan Nelson. In 6th it was Mark English followed by Shawn Bower, Tyler Muller, Taylor Dawson and rounding out the top 10 was Travis Hill. 11 on back was Phil Malouf, Anna Malouf, Justin Pearson, Tim Higgins, Steve Dickson, Pat Dickman, and Jeremy Bredeson.
The night was looking to shape up to be a great feature. But we had the heat races to get through yet. Heat 1 it was Jeremy and Pat leading the group to the line. But once it was all done, it was Steve Dickson taking home the win. In heat 2 it was Phil and Travis leading the pack to the green with some good racing it was Phil taking home the win. In the Fast heat, it was Karter and Ryan leading the group to the green flag. But at the end it was Kyle taking home the win by a difference of 0.043 seconds.
It sure was heating up to be one heck of a feature. You never know what could happen. Tim Higgins and Justin Pearson lead everyone to the green flag. On lap 2 an incident happened with Mark English sitting up by the wall. Everyone gets lined back up and green flag flew again and Tim keeps the lead for a short time while Phil made his way to the top spot. While everyone in the field is making their moves and doing everything they could, you see Karter make his way to the lead on lap 8. But it was short lived when Davey took it over on Lap 10. So many good battles through out the race it would be hard to keep up on. Mark English after being down to 12th making his way back up. By the time was all said and done, it was Davey Pennel taking home his first ever MidWet Dash win. He was followed by Karter, Phil, Justin, and Shawn in 5th. In 6th it was Tyler, Steve, Mark English, Tim, Anna, Pat, Carson, Jeremy, Taylor, Mark Dewey, Kyle, and Travis.
Day 2 of the double header weekend we were at Dells Raceway Park. This is our 3rd year back to the track. And it has proved the drivers like it there. 21 drivers showed up. But only 20 was able to race.
Qualifying time and it was Kyle Stark with a new track record of 15.437. He was followed by Karter Stark, Davey Pennel, Mark Dewey, and rounding out the top 5 was Shawn Bower. 6th on back was Mark English, Tim Higgins, Phil Malouf, Tim Anderson, Cameron Kemnetz, Anna Malouf, Justin Pearson, Shawn Grabinger, Jeremy Berdeson, Tyler Muller, Dean Pennel, Taylor Dawson, Ashley Bell, Travis Hill, and Lyle Phillips.
Heat race time. In heat 1 it was Ashley and Travis leading the pack to the green flag and what a race. The 2 battled all race and so did the others. But it was Travis that came home with the heat win. In heat 2 it was Shawn and Justin leading the pack to the green flag. In the end it was Justin taking home the in but was challenged hard by Cameron for that win. In heat 3 it was Mark English and Tim Higgins leading the pack to the green. It was Mark English taking home the win.
The feature was looking to be a good race yet again. So many drivers that could take home the win, you just never know what will happen. And as drivers figure out the track more, the better they get. So you just never know.
Justin and Shawn lead the everyone to the green flag but a caution came out right away after lap 1 bringing everyone back together. Making it Justin and Cameron the front row. Green flag flew again and everyone takes off. Cameron taking over the lead on lap 3 when he was challenged by Mark Dewey and taking the lead for lap 6. But you have Karter, Kyle, Davey all on the move forward doing what they could. Karter took over the lead for lap 10 with his dad in tow for lap 12. Caution came out again for a blown motor and bringing everyone back together. Green flag flew and the battles continued. Dewey dropped back to 5th, English dropped back to 10th but started making his way back to the front. Good battles all through the field. One more caution for a spun car brought everyone back together one last time and the race went green with everyone looking for that last good spot they can get while Kyle and Kart battle it out for the lead with Karter taking home the big win. He was followed by Kyle, Davey, Cameron, Mark Dewey, Justin, Mark English, Phil, Shawn, and Tim Anderson in 10th. He was followed by Ashley, Tim, Tyler, Dean, Anna, Jeremy, Shawn, Taylor, and Lyle.
Over all it was a great 2 nights of racing. The weather was perfect and he shows were great.
The next race will be at Tomah Sparta Speedway on Sunday Aug 25 for the God Father during Hobbiefest. We hope you can make it. This is going to be a race for the books for sure as we bring it back to where it all started for the MidWest Dash Series. See you there.
