Our second race of the season brought more than just action on the track—it brought smiles off of it as well. Kid’s Day at Marshfield Motor Speedway was a huge success, giving drivers a chance to connect with the next generation of race fans during intermission. Drivers lined up to sign flags, hand out hero cards, and autograph notebooks, making it a memorable experience for the kids. Many drivers said it’s one of their favorite parts of the sport and something they wish they could do even more often. Even after the checkered flag flew, it was great to see families and kids sticking around, soaking in the atmosphere and meeting their favorite drivers.
On to the Racing
Mother Nature gave us a break with cooler temperatures—perfect conditions for fast laps—and the cars definitely responded. While some drivers were still working to dial in their setups, the Marshfield regulars showed their experience by adapting quickly to the track.
When it came time to lay down fast laps, it was Phil Malouf topping the charts with quick time. He was followed by Tim Anderson, Anna Malouf, Mark Dewey, and Mark English rounding out the top five. The rest of the field saw Travis Hill, Tom Lecher, Josh Wilhite, Ron Sischo, and Joe Kuehn complete the top ten. A few teams unfortunately weren’t able to make the call due to mechanical issues.
Heat Race Action
The heats didn’t disappoint:
- Josh Wilhite grabbed the win in Heat 1
- Tim Anderson followed it up with a victory in Heat 2
Feature Time
The feature lineup saw a few last-minute changes due to car issues, but 12 drivers took the green. Travis Hill and Mark English led the field to the start, with English jumping out to an early lead. However, that lead wouldn’t last long.
Phil Malouf had his car hooked up and charged to the front, showcasing strong speed and control. Meanwhile, one of the most talked-about battles on the track was the “Mark vs. Mark” showdown for fourth between Mark Dewey and Mark English. The two went door-to-door for several laps, keeping fans on their feet.
Dewey eventually made the pass, and English tried to follow—but a brush with the rumble strips sent his car around. Impressively, he recovered quickly and kept things rolling without bringing out a caution.
From there, Dewey set his sights on Anna Malouf for third, but time ran out before he could make a move in the 20-lap feature.
